(Background)

TO THE RESIDENTS OF LITTLE EVERSDEN

PROPOSED ERECTION OF A 50 FOOT HIGH TELECOMMUNICATIONS MAST ON HARLTON ROAD

LITTLE EVERSDEN

Telecom Securicor Cellular Radio Ltd (BT Cellnet) have applied for planning permission to erect a 50 foot (15 metre) high microwave transmission and receiving mast on land immediately to the rear of 23 Harlton Road adjacent to the Anglian Water pumping station. The application is dated 20th September 2000 and residents have until October 11th to register any objections with the Planning Department , South Cambridgeshire District Council.

The placement of a 50 foot high microwave transmission mast in a residential area of the village is of considerable concern. Not only will such a mast be blight on the local community, causing a reduction in property values, the safety of these transmitters (which emit high energy microwave radiation) has yet to be proven. If allowed to proceed this mast will be an unsightly addition to the village and potentially hazardous to local residents.

Whilst new masts are important for improvements in mobile phone reception, the siting of a new mast in a residential area cannot be justified when alternative sites away from populated areas are available (such as the disused land-fill site or adjacent to the water tanks at the top of Wimpole Road). Unless action is taken by Eversden residents, a new mast will be erected in the village! Consequently you are urged to write to South Cambridgeshire District Council to register your objections to the proposed development. The address to write to is:

The Director of Planning,
South Cambridgeshire District Council,
South Cambridgeshire Hall,
9-11 Hills Road,
Cambridge, CB2 1PB.

You should clearly state your comments are in relation to "the proposed development of a ground-based mast at land adjacent to the Anglian Water Pumping Station, Harlton Road, Little Eversden, Cambridgeshire, Grid Reference TL 3750 5250, OS map 154". The deadline for registering any objections is October 11th 2000.

If you would like to discuss what action you should take please contact: Steve & Daphne Burton, 23 Harlton Road, Little Eversden (Tel: 01223 262602).
