Quin's Quest (and Irwin)                 Back to Quin's Quest

Quin was just settling in when last we reported (26.2.10)

Well, he's really taken to this next stage. His trainer, Heath, fell in love with him immediately and they have become a formidable team. Quin has been allowed to stay with Heath in order to experience a different home environment. This has resulted in many more fans being drawn in by his gentle and affectionate demeanour. Heath  rings us with a regular updates and says, “He is getting on amazingly well!”

Quin’s life is very full now. He has recently been to London on the Tube Train. He handled the crowds of the City like a professional and his large stature gives him a distinctive presence in the busy streets. He is now learning "shoulder work". This is a method of training him to concentrate on the handler’s right shoulder. This is teaching him to gauge the correct width so that his handler can pass round people, street furniture and through gaps safely without being bumped or hurt.

Quin has learnt to stop and sit at a kerb, so alerting the partially sighted person of possible danger. He is very happy and his sponsors and friends can be very proud of him. He stays with Heath for a few more weeks then, if all goes according to plan, he will move on to Advanced Training. Our boy is on course for a successful career. (G and T)

Remember Irwin? (10.2.10)

Irwin is smaller than Quin was at his age but makes up for it in every way with his amazing confidence.  He seems to have nerves of steel and believes he is ‘in charge’ no matter how big his doggy visitors are. He is mischievous but great fun and eager to learn.

Sometimes when he is instructed to go ‘down’ he does well, but sometimes forgets and leaves his bottom in the air. But he is only four months old! He loves people and especially children so we are working on curbing his enthusiasm because he thinks that kids and flapping trouser legs are toys sent from heaven for him to play with!

When we can get him to concentrate he really is a star.
