John White: Chairman of the Village Hall committee 2005 to 2013

John White died on 16th December 2013.

Along with his committee, John ran the village hall with diligence and flair. He was zealous in his guardianship of both the fabric of the building and of its place in the life of the villages. The following is a list of some of the goals achieved during his chairmanship:

Replacement of all guttering.

The addition of toilet facilities suitable for the disabled.

The introduction of Film Nights.

An induction loop for people using hearing aids.

Successful application for a grant from the Lottery Fund for the refurbishment of the kitchen, complete redecoration, and improved heating and lighting.

Successful application for a second grant for the purchase of digital projector, electric screen and speakers.

The establishment of the Eversdens Society (Film Nights, Race Nights, etc)

The restoration of the floor.

He was working on ideas to extend the hall in order to improve storage, Green Room, and small meeting facilities.

John made sure the prime purpose of the village hall was enjoyment. Fundraising though was also necessary. With this basic policy, the committee was able to arrange some special events and still keep the village hall financially viable.

John was a stickler for detail. He never missed a new scratch in the paintwork! His vigilance kept the village hall in good condition and, therefore, attractive to users and hirers for all manner of activities from band-practices to receptions. Much of his work was behind the scenes. His car was to be seen frequently outside the village hall as he attended to some little problem - a dodgy heater, a light bulb, a touch of paint, a loose hinge.

The villages have lost a tireless and effective champion of the Village Hall.
