A meeting of the Parish Council was held in the Village Hall on 21 June 2010 at 8pm.

 

            Apologies: Mrs Hobbs, Mr Tebbit, Mr Kilker

 

Present, Mrs Handley, Mr Huddleston, Mrs Connolly, Mrs Pritchard, Mr Blatch, Mr White, and, in the Chair, Mr Dalton.  Cl. Mrs Heazell and Cl. Kindersley were also present.

 

Minutes of the meetings held on 10th May were approved and signed.

 

Appointment of Representative on the Parochial Church Council.  Mrs Pritchard was unanimously appointed.  This appointment was postponed from the Annual Parish Meeting.

 

Matters arising from the Minutes

 

2          Nixon's Hall Tablet. This is still under repair.

 

3          Land Registration of Parish Property Declaration.  This is in the hands of the solicitors and the Chairman.

 

4          Trees at 2 Wheeler's Way Chairman to write to SCDC to arrange for the two young trees to be cut down..

 

5          Road at St Helen's Transfer.  This is in the hands of the solicitors and the Chairman.

 

6          Allotment Organisation. Mrs Pritchard reported that she had visited the allotments and that they were looking very good.

 

7          Village Plan Mr White reported that they have now produced a document summarising and analysing the responses.  It is proposed to circulate a copy to each household, as soon as printing is complete.  Some volunteered to help with delivery.

 

8          Standing Orders. Nothing further to report

 

9          Youth Club Bus. Mr Blatch reported that this was now up and running and continues to be a great success at full capacity.  The recreation committee is determined to find means of funding its future use. Resolved that the PC would consider help with funding through consultation by email once Budget details are known

 

10        Telephone Box at Little Eversden has been repaired but some glass is still missing.  Mr Blatch will obtain a piece of toughened glass and install it.

 

11        Salt Bins It was agreed that the colour of the three salt bins should be brown and Mr Huddleston or the Chairman would circulate the reference for the web-site supplier to members. Agreed to order three at a cost of approx. £150 each

 

12          Rats in Wimpole Road Ditch. Our Environmental Health Officer is reported as satisfied with the present state. Anyone who was charged by the Council for working on their property should contact Cl. Mrs Heazell. The employment of a private firm would not be eligible for refunding.

 

13        Cycle Path Eversden to Comberton Mr Huddleston would contact Sustrans again in the hope of an answer.

 

14        Recreation Ground Alterations  Mr Blatch reported that plans were progressing and that they would hold an open day later in the summer to explain the plans to everyone interested.

 

15        Affordable Houses The Chairman reported that Accent Nene were hoping to have a meeting with the planners last week to discuss proposals for 0SP 148.

 

New Business

 

16        Great Eversden Village Sign. Mrs Pritchard reported that her son was willing to repair and re-erect this sign. This gesture was approved and appreciated.

 

17        Broadband Mr Huddleston agreed to gather information about the poor quality of Broadband reception and report back to the next meeting.

 

18        Finance

17        Planning.

            Letter received from owner of land between The Hoops and Mrs Doyle's house with various proposals for building a house and shop. Agreed that further information was needed. Chairman to write to the owner.

18        Community Pride and Vilage Heroes Awards, and election of Parish Council representative on Standards Board. Agreed not to take part.

 

19        Correspondence in circulation

  

20        Cl. Mrs Heazell reported that the Audit Commission had been instructed by the Government to speak to Local Councils about providing weekly refuse collection.  No details yet available. Council Tax payment has been frozen for a year.  There will be less money for facilities. She and Cl. Kindersley were shortly going to have a meeting with the bus company, Whippet, to discuss local bus services

 

21        Cl. Kindersley reported the Government's announcement that work on the A14 had been suspended. Many cuts were expected to follow especially in the Highways Budget. The pothole grant of £1.3m was to be retained but £3m out of an 8m budget was to be cut..

The day-care facility at Toft would be withdrawn.  There were now over 500 children being looked after in care.

The guided bus was still a disaster area with £5.5m set aside for legal fees.
