A meeting of the Parish Council was held in the Village Hall on 1st September 2008 at 8pm.
Apologies from Mrs Hobbs, Mr Huddleston, Mrs Pritchard and Cl. Kindersley.
Present Mrs Handley, Mrs Connolly, Mr White, Mr Kilker, Mr Blatch, and, in the Chair, Mr Dalton. Cl. Mrs Heazell was also present
Minutes of the meeting held on 14th July were approved as a true record and signed.
The Meeting on 4th August, scheduled as a Planning Meeting, was cancelled, as no applications had been received
Matters arising from the Minutes
1 Nixon's Hall Tablet. This is being repaired.
Land Registration of Parish Property. This is in hand. A letter has been written to Lloyds Bank to ascertain if they hold the deeds of the Village Hall.
Hedge in Lowfields This has been cut.
Hedge at 2 Wheeler's Way No change. Mr Kilker has visited twice, but found no one at home. He will keep trying.
Road at St Helen's Transfer. This is in the hands of the solicitors.
Allotment tidying Mrs Pritchard had written to report that she had again spoken to Mrs Clemmow making herself available for a chat. She will keep trying.
Dog Waste Bin This has been erected at the agreed site in Lowfields.
Low Close Work has begun
2 Tennis Club A copy of a letter sent by the Tennis Club Committee to Mr Blatch, Chairman of the Recreation Field Committee, had been circulated referring to a scheme proposed for renovation work. As a meeting of the Recreation Field Committee was scheduled for 4th September, it was agreed to await their report.
3. Hedge over footpath at Pump House. The Chairman agreed to speak to the owner.
4 Wheeler's Way: strip of waste land. No objections raised to the sale of this by SCDC.
5 Standing Orders. Mr White reported that he had just received some comments on this at the beginning of the meeting and that he would have to consider them before giving a report.
6. Planning Procedures. As this subject is tied up with Standing Orders no decision would be made, but, in the meantime, a Planning Meeting would be called when necessary
7 Eastern England Regional Development Plan. This is a massive document, available on the internet and should probably be checked.
8 Police Liaison
22nd July Meeting on Speeding at Sawston Village College. Mr Kilker attended and had produced a report (circulated). There was interest in the experimental Speedwatch scheme, (see under item 11)
Also a further, regular liaison meeting had been held on 23rd July at 19.30. at Barrington. The Chairman had attended and circulated a report.
9 Village Plan Mr White had nothing further to report.

Information meeting at Church Farm, Gt. Eversden. 19.9.08, 18.00
Mr Wheeler had written to all members of the P.C. and other residents, outlining his intention to convert a former piggery into a retirement home. The plans would be described at the above meeting. No action could be taken by the PC until a Planning Application is received and discussed.
12 Reports from Councillors Mrs Heazell read from a report prepared by Cl. Kindersley. He explained the trial project Speedwatch outlined by the police at the meeting on 22 July. Local people are trained to monitor speeding vehicles with Police follow-up. The focus is not on prosecution but on driver education.
He also mentioned problems experienced by the builders at the Central Library. It was hoped to open again on 22nd December 2008.
On the question of speeding in villages, one conspicuous local offender was mentioned and Mr White agreed to speak to him.
Cl. Mrs Heazell spoke of her work in connection with council houses and her desire to see that tenants' views were fully considered.
She also asked if there had been any flooding in the villages. No houses had been flooded but there had been substantial standing water outside no 12 and no 26 Lowfields once again.
