The village Internet site was founded in January 2000 by Alan & Heather Huddleston, Tony Bane, and Fiona Ellis (representing the Tail Corn magazine).  A blue colour scheme was adopted since this is the colour associated with the Eversdens .... coming from the days when each village had its own coloured Corn trailers.

Why was the Site created?

• To encourage communication within the village
• Villages local to Eversden already have an Internet presence
• That the founders might meet more people in the village
• To learn more about the production of an Internet site
• Since many people in the village have an Internet connection, it seemed logical to provide an on-line village service
• To promote and support village activities
• Seemed a reasonable excuse for opening a bottle of wine on a regular occasion to discuss progress of the site!

Technical Information and Assumptions

• It is envisaged that the bulk of our audience will be using modem access to this site
• The KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid!) principle has been applied to this site, this allows the site to be easily managed, quick to use whilst providing a comprehensive set of services
• This means ...
  • Economical use of graphics - just enough to make the pages look attractive without causing huge download times (slow pages)
  • Pages containing extensive graphics will contain warnings on pages that link to them
  • Simple colour schemes rather than graphical backgrounds
• Every web site must be kept at a 'host site'. There are many hosts who offer many different levels of service at different costs.
• We have elected to use a host offering free services, many of which require us to show promotional advertising. We try to select those services that are free and with little or no advertising requirement. 
• Thank you to all service providers that enable us to run this site at zero cost
• We have purchased (our only cost to date!) our own domain name 'The-Eversdens.co.uk' and have set this up in a way that will allow us to change service providers if we need to without the need to change web or email addresses.
• This flexibility has been provided to allow freedom in choice of host and also to allow administrators to change with the minimum of fuss.
• All members of the administration team provide their time free of charge.
