Merry's Farm Wind Farm - the latest   26th November 2007           Back to Merry's Farm Wind Farm

On Sunday 25th November the Chairman of the Parish Council received a large document. This document is a copy of the request from Daly International to South Cambs District Council for a "Scoping Opinion" on the proposed Merry's Farm wind farm.

The request for a Scoping Opinion takes the form of a report following responses to Daly International's initial approaches to "key stakeholders" and some others - Stage 1 Consultation. Key Stakeholders include Natural England, RSPB, and the National Trust. The report is 46 pages long and is made up largely of the responses received. The Report will be kept at Little Eversden School for anyone who wants to read it. You will be interested to see for yourself how these bodies have responded.

The report also includes the following two paragraphs:

"14.10
Whilst listed as one of the planned Stage 2 consultees, Great Eversden and Little Eversden Parish Council became aware of the Stage 1 consultation on 24 Seprember 2007. Following verbal discussions it was agreed to provide a concise explanation of the consultation process and other pertinent information relevant to the proposal for inclusion on the Eversden website - a website run by and on behalf of residents of Great and Little Eversden. The article can be seen at here. In case further details were required contact details were also provided - to date no requests for information have been received.

14.11
Irrespective of the above, wider public and stakeholder consultation will occur when the project has matured sufficiently to permit the same. Such consultation could potentially take, the form of public meetings, focus groups, community mail-shots, dedicated website for updates/news/contact, private meetings if necessary - all undertaken with reference to suggested mechanisms contained in the Renewable Energy Advisory Board & DTI Protocol publication."

(Editor's comment: The absence of requests for further information should not be construed as indifference.)

South Cambs District Council have asked the Eversdens Parish Council to contribute to its own thinking with regard to the requested Scoping Opinion by submitting a response by 14th December. The Parish Council will discuss on 3rd December how best to gauge the response in the villages. Possible approaches are a house-by-house leaflet exercise or a public meeting. If you wish to influence this process you should make your ideas known to a Parish Councillor.

Be clear that this exercise is to help inform the South Cambs District Council's "Scoping Opinion". It is not part of the Stage 2 consultation which Daly International have described above.
