The Village Hall has a capacity of 120. It has a main hall, a gallery, a stage extending to 14 feet, a committee room, and ample field parking. There is a newly-furbished kitchen (2008) stocked with cutlery and crockery. New toilet facilities complying with the Disability Discrimination Act were formally opened at the Games Evening on 8th October 2005 (See Eversden Events)). There is a hearing induction loop. The Village Hall is a great place for parties, wedding receptions, plays - all kinds of gatherings. The Village Hall Committee meets every six weeks. The Chairman is John White (01223 263160 or email.) Betty Mallows, who has cared for the Village Hall for a long time, is the Bookings Secretary. Origins The "new" Congregationalist chapel, built in 1845 to accommodate 500, reflected the strength of Nonconformity in the Eversdens. ((The Francis Holcroft plaque)). By 1937, however, membership had fallen to 22. The chapel finally closed in 1965 when its members joined Kingston chapel. The Eversdens Parish Council bought the building and restored it as The Village Hall. |
