Village Car Scheme
Provides door-to-door transport for residents of the Eversdens who neither drive nor have access to other means of transport. It is provided by volunteer drivers using their own cars and is arranged through a co-ordinator. Journeys are limited to essential medical and social visits e.g. doctor, dentist, or hospital appointments. Some people also find occasional trips to a nearby post office very useful.
The scheme is run by volunteers, with drivers able to claim a small amount of mileage from Cambridge County Council and passengers paying the driver 30p per mile at the outset of each journey. This never amounts to more than a few pounds – much cheaper than a taxi!
To arrange a journey please call June White on 01223 263160. There is no answer please leave a message with your name and phone number and June will call you back.
New volunteer drivers would be welcomed, you would need to be an experienced driver with a reliable 4-door car and a clean driving licence. Please contact June if you can help.
