St Mary's Tower 8th October 2008                                      Back to The Eversdens Scene Index       To July pictures

This clear October day offered an ideal opportunity to see how the work on St Mary's tower is progressing.  Carpenters have repaired the spire and its supports. Most of the pointing is finished. Important stonework has been replaced. The internal guttering channels are almost ready for sealing. The window stones are on the way.

The Bakers of Danbury team has consisted of Peter Delderfield - mason fixer, site foreman; Terry Sawyer - mason fixer, assistant foreman; Jon Rose - bricklayer, mason fixer; Andrew "Pottsy" Potter - general labourer; David Adamson - conservator; Lee Welbourn - assistant conservator; Maurice Avery - carpenter, lead plumber; Jamie Avery - carpenter, lead plumber. St Mary's tower has been preserved by skilled human hands. We thank you.

The views are much the same as before but three months on.

The work may be finished next month! Watch for the tower being unwrapped.
