Dedication of St Helen's bells 17th October 2009          Back to Eversden Events Index         Back to St Helen's

On 17th October 900 years ago the Diocese of Ely was founded. On this day in 2009 The Rt Revd Dr David Thomson, Bishop of Huntingdon, came to Little Eversden for the Dedication of St Helen's bells. Ringers from around the country came to ring the bells. The Revd Michael Matthews welcomed the Bishop and guests. In this time-honoured ceremony, the bellhanger, Brian White, hands the bell ropes to the Churchwarden, Pat Walden. The Churchwarden passes the ropes to the Bishop. The bells are blessed and then the ropes are passed into the hands of the Tower Captain, Clive Dalton.
This service marks another milestone in the re-establishment of St Helen's bells. Follow the story from the start by returning to St Helen's. (DF)
