The meeting held in The Eversdens Village Hall Thursday 4th October 2007 promised much (see report 4.10.07)
A steering committee was formed and slowly thrashed out a questionnaire which was distributed to every house in the villages in February 2009. There were returns from half the households.
Analysis of the responses was a major exercise. This culminated in a Summary Report which was delivered to every house in August 2010.
The report (see Index) revealed much information about how local people would like to see The Eversdens develop. There appeared to be much enthusiasm for joining societies and working parties, for keeping fit, for nurturing the environment, etc., etc. It was also clear that local people greatly valued the rural nature of the villages and their surroundings.
Affordable housing, plans to improve the recreational facilities for young people (e.g. the Youth Bus), cycle-way projects, were already underway and received support in the Summary Analysis. However, it cannot be claimed that any specific action has taken place as a direct result of the Eversdens |Ahead exercise.
There may be several conclusions to be drawn from this, among them that the people of The Eversdens like the villages just as they are! If you have transport and wish to use Comberton Village College and Cambridge, there is rich "local" provision. Having acknowledged that, The Eversdens, too, provide pretty well with regard to clubs, events, and activities. "I didn't see it advertised!" remains a common observation reflecting on the use of established channels of communication. Nevertheless, The Villages do afford opportunities for considerable community action and interaction.
The opportunities remain for those who expressed the willingness to be more involved, to get together and make things happen. Such initiatives would be welcomed. (DF - a personal view) |
