Eversden Gunners played an oldies team from the village. The proceeds will be given to Charlotte Cox to help her get to the 1st World Games for Athletes with Down Syndrome, in Mexico.

Here is a letter sent by her mum.

 

"Dear All
 
I am writing to ask you if you would be prepared to donate something  to an Auction of Promises that we are holding in Toft at the Social Club on 10.4.10 to raise funds to send Charlotte Cox to Mexico to take part in the 1st World Games for Athletes with Down Syndrome.
 
Charlotte is 19 years old lives in Toft (Cambridgeshire) with her family. Charlotte went to Comberton VC and now goes to Cambridge Regional College.  Charlotte has a great interest in Athletics, she trains 3-4 times a week with Cambridge and Coleridge Athletics club. Charlotte competes for the club in "Ordinary" competitions and does very well, but it is in the disability arena she excels.
 
She has been selected by The Down Syndrome International Organisation ( http://www.dsiso.org/Calandar.htm ) to represent GB in the 1st World Games for Athletes with Down Syndrome the event is in Mexico in September  2010 and we are fundraising to cover the cost of £1000 to send Charlotte to these games.

 

In 2009 she competed in the 3 National Championships for Athletes with a disability and won Gold and Silver Medals in them all:

 • Mencap National Championships in Watford (27.6.09) winning gold in the 100m and Silver in the 200m
• Then off to Blackpool to compete in D.S.E (Disability Sport England) National Championships winning gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m.
• Then to Leicester to Special Olympics Summer Games : The Special Olympics was a festival of sport over 7 days, 19 regions competed in over 21 sports with 1200 coaches, 1500 volunteers and 2700 athletes, Charlotte went as as part of the Eastern Region Squad and competed in the 100m (winning Gold) the 200m (Silver) and the 4x100m Relay (Silver).


The rewards didn't end on the track, Charlotte was nominated by her club and won:
• Cambridge Sport Network - Disabled Sports Performer of the year 2009
• Living Sports Cambridge and Peterborough Sports Partnership "Anglia Ruskin" Disabled Sports Performer of the year 2009
• Cambridge & Coleridge Athletics Club Overall Sports Performer of the Year 2009 
• BBC East Sport Awards 2009 Disabled Sports Performer of the year
